Frenz Award Winners
frenz pickleball has won the ‘Getting Swansea Active’ Award, by Sport and Health Swansea and Freedom Leisure for 2024/25.
this is in recognition of the work that frenz has done to bring pickleball to so many people in and around Swansea, establishing regular satellite groups where players can meet weekly and enjoy a healthy game or two whilst spending time socialising too.
In addition, Mary Ellis, a constant at frenz Hazel Court Mobility Pickleball Group, was runner-up ‘Volunteer of the Year’ as she has inspired the group to find fun and fitness through frenz’ modified pickleball, ideal for the more senior players, or those that struggle for mobility.
Competition was stiff, with larger and more established candidates in our class, however, the work done in taking pickleball to schools, village halls, residential homes and larger leisure centres, showed our commitment to the community at large…
Mobility Pickleball on Thursdays at Hazel Court
Frenz has developed ‘Mobility’ Pickleball.
A very modified version of pickleball, which takes all of the benefits of a slower ball, smaller court and simplified rules and melds them into a fun game for people with mobility issues.
We have a foam ball and have dispensed with points (Most of the time) and enjoy a recreational too and fro at Hazel Court.
If you need assistance, we’ll provide a ‘pickling pal’ who will try and get any shots that are out of your range…
Frenz Mobility is a 1 hour session with plenty of sit downs and chats, and tea or coffee and it’s free.
We play on Thursdays 12-1pm with a monthly sit-down exercise session thrown in
Frenz Pickleball makes an impact
Pickleball is an arresting game
Pickleball began on a small island just off the coast near Seattle, way back in 1965. It has grown at a fantastic rate in recent years, especially during Covid, when people would form a bubble of players and set up games in the street, or parks.
Today there are pickleball courts across America, and now a few are appearing in the UK too.
Frenz Pickleball have been using badminton courts in leisure centres, community halls and now outdoors in parks, to deliver pickleball sessions and they are very popular, so that now you can play pickleball somewhere every day of the week, and it’s only getting bigger and better, with more courts and more time slots.
Incredibly popular with seniors, kids and parents, and adapted for disability players, pickleball is making an impact on health and wellbeing and it’s a great social occasion too.
Frenz Pickleball’s work with ‘Mobility’ Pickleball at Hazel Court Residential Community was recognised by Swansea Sports awards 2023/4.
